The Physician Within

Mystery of Prayer Explained | Prayer Request

“The world’s spiritual and transformative practices point to a place of refuge within.”
Dr. Cassandra Vieten, A research psychologist & addictions expert

Welcome to the church of cyber space. Within Cosmos Institute of Holistic Science we believe that in order to have true healing the Body/Mind must function in cooperation with the Physician Within, the God of your understanding. Hence, this aspect of spirituality is required as one of the three legs of our purpose (Education, Research, and Spirituality). Just as we advocate the return to Spirit Medicine and Mind which means the recognition that the God of the universe is present in everything, person, and event which includes everything in Nature. We must connect with the spiritual oneness of the cosmos to achieve our Divine destiny.

As we contemplate the reality of the world around us, and realize that it is NOT the world the institutionalized religions had promised us; we finally came to the conclusion that the God of today is not working for us. We (at cosmos) refuse to believe this is God’s fault. We just have not been listening when what we have been taught runs in conflict with our wishes. But we can make a change in the world, one soul at a time. There is a song from the 50’s that has been a favorite of mine since I first heard and used it as a theme for a national youth conference in my church in 1956. I’m sure many of you have heard it: “Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let It Begin With Me.” Many Unity churches still sing this song as their closing hymn. If only we could get this message to all the peoples of the world, and they take it into they’re spiritual being then we will make a difference. I don’t know that this can be done in institutionalized religion – because we are taught that God is a demanding God who insist you believe in him as the only true God, and they tell us what to believe in their God, and that he is a vengeful God who demands punishments and rewards, who claims all the sins of the world are the result of false Gods, which many call satin. This is not the god of my understanding. My God is a loving forgiving parent who is omnipresent in everything in the universe, omnipotent, and is always available to me. All I need do is open up the channels of communication. Then he can work in and through me to establish divine order in the universe. Institutionalized religion did not want me to acknowledge such a God because it took religion out of the equation and my beliefs couldn’t be controlled. We were all taught the “Golden Rule,” as children, by every religion in the world, yet we don’t follow its precepts. I think it is because we have confused God with ego (Erase God Out). Most wars are fought in the name of some God, why do we still believe that any God would command such tragedy and destruction upon his children?

During my activities with the Relay for Life (American Cancer Society premier fund raiser) I was seeking some support from all the churches in my community. One of the ministers told me he does not cooperate with the other churches, or their spiritual leaders because they don’t believe as he does. In other words, if you don’t belong to my church philosophy you are going “straight to hell”. Such attitudes exacerbate any attempts to practice the freedom of religion “right” we all strive to promulgate.

Let me tell you a true story, which is the genesis of my realization that all institutionalized religion, comes in conflict with human nature. Many years ago my father was the head of his church board. The board came in conflict over some actions of the minister, which the board considered un-Christian like conduct. The result of the board’s action was that the fired minister sued the board members and the traumatic court case, which the board won, caused a deep wound and split within the congregation. The wounds were so deep that attendance was no longer a happy peaceful occasion, so my parents left the church disillusioned. They did not want to discontinue their usual Sunday morning time so they had a standing order for the Sunday sermon and meditation with the church in another city by a minister they enjoyed. They lived on the top floor of a condominium overlooking Tampa bay, and held their own service with the tape player and some peace and quiet while they enjoyed the sights on the bay. As close to the natural beauty of the environment they enjoyed so much. I believe their spiritual experience was greatly enhanced by this practice. Out of a traumatic experience evolved greater growth.

We have the same type of situation in our small community as a result of the troubles that were recently faced by the Catholics and Episcopalians and their relations with each other as well as the community. I believe there are many among my readers who have personally felt the disenfranchising with a particular church or whole denomination. This is because when groups of people organize to walk the path of a particular dogma or ritual, politics, power, and greed eventually slip into the organization. I can usually live with such disagreeable situations because I understand them as a fact of society, but not when someone tries to influence my spiritual foundation. My spirit belongs to me! I welcome everyone to express their own spirituality, as they feel most comfortable as long as it works for them.

The late Dr. Marcus Bach advocated what he called the “Over Church” to replace the institutionalized denominations we have today. A church that allows everyone to walk with the God that brings them Love, Peace, and Serenity: free from the dictates of religious leaders with a personal agenda. This God is to be found within the hearts of each individual when he seeks a workable spiritual foundation for life.

There are also many others of our human brothers and sisters who are sick and lost their own spiritual path, they just need to be guided to seek the Physician Within for the Love and healing they crave. They don’t need to be told they are poor sinners who have earned the wrath of God and if they don’t follow “my” instructions they will spend eternity in “hell.” Instead they need a positive uplifting message that will give them hope, and lead them to feel and understand the presence of the universal God that Loves all his children of the earth.

What is the purpose of fancy brick and mortar structures? God does not want expensive alters built to honor him. He doesn’t need obedient servants; he is content with himself. All he wants is for all his children to love and respect one another.

I’ve always advocated that when life is reduced to its simplest terms the rules are very simple. If we follow the golden rule in all our affairs, and obey the laws of the land, and access our personal Physician Within, then the obstacles will be removed and we will be allowed to pass. In the Omega of our life we will be able to say, “I stood the course, and walked hand in hand with my God who will welcome me home.” This does not require learning complex doctrine, just silence so we can hear the still small voice calling. This is all a church has to do – be a facilitator as you work out your own divine path with your personal God. A spiritual leader is just that, leading by example and helping the strays to find their own God within. There have been many great and reverent spiritual leaders throughout history and they all ask only that we Love all humanity, animals, and the earth. If we all do this, peace will be restored to a suffering humanity.

It is for all the above reasons that Cosmos Institute of Holistic Science has established the Nature’s e-Chapel. The Chapel is a non-denominational, non-sectarian community whose objectives is to promote the idea that regardless of your church affiliation we can help you with your access to the Physician within each of us.
